Being a mother has changed my whole world

A mother’s work is never done. A lot of moms can definitely agree on this. I for sure can agree 100%.

I am a senior in college and a full-time mommy. College alone for a young adult can be stressful but imagine being a parent and trying to find yourself, manage classes and be part of an organization. You have to learn how to manage because a lot of things come with being a young adult in college — but being a parent as well is another. Being a young parent  is a new challenge in itself, learning this perfect human you birthed and how you’re going to fit being a mother into your already busy school life is a new skill unlocked for yourself.

Halloween will be here before we know it. This memorable holiday usually involves scary movies, everyone in scary or funny costumes, and children going out trick or treating.

But these aren’t normal times. An opioid crisis is on the rise nationally and in North Florida, and a drug called rainbow fentanyl has been affecting children.

Top students in Florida A&M University’s School of Architecture and Engineering
Technology had the chance to attend the NOMA Unplugged 2022 conference. NOMA,
an acronym for National Organization of Minority Architects, held this year’s conference
in Nashville in late October.

FAMU students had the opportunity to meet countless established architects, designers,
students and other professionals with a career close to architecture. The FAMU
students attended seminars, workshops and heard keynote speeches from their peers.

Nyla Brown is a culinary arts student who attends Keiser University.

Brown, a Jacksonville native, comes from a family of seven. She is the eldest sister.

She concluded that cooking is her niche and that it would be her moneymaker. She originally came to Tallahassee to attend Florida A&M University, but quickly realized that wasn’t her future.

Brown opened her food catering business, Monae Meals, in 2021 and since then has been building and building. She has been catering to events such as parties, baby showers and more.
